A brief introduction from authors David Ly and Daniel Zomparellei discussing queerness, subverting the horror gaze, and their love of monsters.
David Ly is a writer, editor, and poet. He is the author of the poetry collections Mythical Man (shortlisted for the 2021 ReLit Poetry Award) and Dream of Me as Water, both published under Anstruther Books at Palimpsest Press. His poems have appeared in PRISM international, The Puritan, Arc Poetry Magazine, carte blanche, Best Canadian Poetry 2021, and elsewhere. In 2021, he won the The Puritan’s inaugural Austin Clarke Prize in Literary Excellence for Poetry. He currently lives on unceded Coast Salish territory.
Daniel Zomparelli is the author of the poetry collections Davie Street Translations and Rom Com, co-written with Dina Del Bucchia. His collection of short stories, Everything Is Awful and You’re a Terrible Person, was nominated for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize and won the ReLit Short Fiction Award. It has been translated into three other languages. His podcast, I’m Afraid That, was listed as one of the best podcasts of 2018 by Esquire. He currently lives in Los Angeles.
