Gya yu stees (Joe Starr, in Haisla) from Nanaimo, BC is a member of the Haisla First Nation in Bella Bella. He began to write about six years ago as therapy. He has self-published two books: Nuyem Weaver, a collection of short stories; and NOSTA,a Grade 4/5 chapter book that is set in Kitamaat and ends in Bella Bella. Joe has also been previously published in the anthology In Our Own Aboriginal Voice (Rebel Mountain Press, 2016), and he is a co-author of We are all Connected: Haisla, Rivers and Salmon (Strong Nations, 2017).
