Connie Fife

Connie Fife (1961– 2017) was a Cree poet and editor. A survivor of the 60s Scoop, Connie published three books of poetry, Beneath the Naked Sun (Sister Vision, 1992), Speaking through Jagged Rock (Broken Jaw, 1999), Poems for a New World (Ronsdale, 2001) and the anthology The Color of Resistance: A contemporary collection of writing by Aboriginal women (Sister Vision, 1993). In 2000, Connie received the one-time Prince and Princess Edward Prize in Aboriginal Literature, in recognition of her contribution both in Indigenous communities, and to Canada as a whole. This poetry was drawn from her unfinished collection, “Returned” (2001 – 2017).
