Connie is a Fluent Cree speaker, Two Spirit human rights advocate. “I would eventually like to teach Cree in my community, encouraging aspiring writers to hone their craft, learning about traditional ceremonies and storytelling. I am inspired to write by other First Nations artists, such as Tomson Highway, Chrystos, Billy Merasty, Maria Campbell, and Jordan Wheeler. I grew up in a home with a wood stove and an outdoor toilet. I remember when all we spoke was Cree in our home. Our language needs to be taught and writers of the world can help bring this resurgence about in our communities. Ekosani.”
