ROWAN McCANDLESS’s writing has appeared in print and online journals such as Fiddlehead, Malahat Review, Prairie Fire, Room, Skin Deep, the Nasiona, and in the anthology Black Writers Matter. She is a member of Fiddlehead’s advisory board. In 2018, Rowan’s short story “Castaways” was long-listed for the Journey Prize. In 2019, she won the Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Prize. In 2020, she received gold, as well as an honourable mention, at the National Magazine Awards—one-of-a-kind storytelling. Her memoir, Persephone’s Children (Dundurn Press), will be launched in October 2021.
