James Arthur (b. 1974) grew up in Toronto. His first book, Charms Against Lightning, was published in 2012 by Copper Canyon Press. Arthur’s poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, The London Review of Books, Brick, Poetry, The American Poetry Review, and Ploughshares. He has received the Amy Lowell Travelling Poetry Scholarship, a Hodder Fellowship, a Stegner Fellowship, a Discovery/The Nation Prize, and a Fulbright Scholarship to the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry in Northern Ireland. Arthur lives in Baltimore, where he teaches in the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University
