Where I Belong

From: In Our Own Aboriginal Voice

A short story about a young Indigenous girl who wants to return to her past.

Natalia Auger Nybida

Natalia Auger Nybida is 15 years old, and is Sagamok Anishnabek through her mother. She lives on Cortes, a small island situated in the Salish Sea. Her interests are cinematography (which she has been able to experience through Reel Youth), photography, piano, and, of course, writing. Natalia has been writing since very young and she loves creating stories in her free time. Natalia is currently working on a new writing project for Cortes Community Radio called the Deep Roots Initiative. It combines First Nations legends with environmental issues. Her story is about reconnecting with Wolf as brother and neighbour—coming from a place of connection with nature instead of fear and human dominating.
