Tara DeSousa, born Adam Laboucan, is a First Nation Cree Metis transgender female from the Drift Pile First Nation, Alberta. Born 1981 in Edmonton to Linda Laboucan and Buddy Lewis McKenzie, Tara has 11 siblings and grew up in Edmonton, Dawson Creek, and Quesnel. She believes that writing is a gift that every Indigenous person has and that it can aid their journey out of any hard situation. Authors that inspire her are Chief Dan George and Maya Angelou.
